When we look at our data through a geographic lens, we see that location can unveil patterns that we otherwise might not have discovered. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a core enabling technology that allows for users to access, interpret and visualize multivariate data in unique ways. It supports exciting cross disciplinary research and providing unique learning outcomes for researchers and students, enabling them to “think spatial”.
In this session, GIS Librarians and IT Professionals from multiple campuses, as well as from the GIS Software company Esri Education Team, will share how Esri’s ArcGIS GIS tools are being leveraged for faculty, research and student success. This is an ideal session for attendees to learn more about how GIS is being utilized and why it is a critical part of the research toolkit for enabling teaching and learning. Unique perspectives are offered for GIS tools their influence on curriculum and skills development. Attendees will also learn about the amazing benefits provided in the Esri UCOP contract, who they can talk to at their respective UC Campus about Esri products/licensing, and tips for collaborating in the UC GIS community.
Previous Knowledge
No prior experience using or managing GIS is necessary. This is meant for all attendees to learn the value GIS can bring to researchers and classes on campus.
