Jeffrey Weekley is Director of Research Computing & CyberInfrastructure at UC Merced. He joined the Office of Information Technology at Merced in 2016, as the first and only member of the Research IT team. Since then, his team has grown to three dedicated Research IT professionals. Prior to joining the University of California, Mr. Weekley worked briefly in 2014-2016 as the Science Engagement Officer for the national research network of New Zealand (REANNZ), where he worked with the country's research universities to ensure that the national network was meeting their needs. From the late 1990's through 2015, he was research faculty at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, CA. A founding faculty member of the Modeling, Virtual Environments and Simulation (MOVES) Institute, he conducted research into advanced media applications, such as Ultra-high Definition TV (4K), interactive 3D graphics and virtual reality, as well as other modeling and simulation efforts. Prior to joining the faculty at NPS, Mr. Weekley served on active duty with the US Navy as a Cryptologic Linguist in support of the national intelligence community. Away from work, he enjoys spending time with his border collie at the beach in his hometown of Monterey.
