Batman and Robin. Han Solo and Chewbacca. Mario and Luigi. Just like these famous pairings, so it is for Data Architecture and Data Governance — they’re aligned to support each other in a variety of ways. What tops this data management duo’s list? Their shared goal of creating standards and guidelines to support UC*'s strategic goals (increasing operational efficiency, decreasing costs, mitigating risk, promoting data as a business asset - the list is long).

Without the benefit of a dedicated enterprise data architect or any existing data governance structure, the Enterprise Information and Analytics team at UC* put into place a robust data-management practice and data governance framework, with buy-in from key stakeholders and quickly maturing processes that can deliver high-quality, analytics-ready data in a secure and governed manner.

This is the story of that relationship and that work: where we started, how we got here, and where we're going. This presentation is meant to illustrate the practical steps to achieve a working data-management framework, informed by key governance concepts.
