Recently we have launched a new initiative in our institution called “Research Enablement” . This initiative has paved the way for IT to understand the research community’s technology needs, so that we can provide them with secure and sophisticated IT solutions to conduct research. In alignment with other IT initiatives currently underway, our goal is to be able to minimize disruption, strengthen safety, and improve the user experience of laboratory researchers.

The initiative focuses on the following objectives:

  1. Discovery and enablement - Discover the laboratory technology needs of research faculty, including existing laboratory devices and applications that require IT support. Ensure appropriate security requirements are applied while maintaining business continuity.
  2. Faculty onboarding - Establish and implement a new faculty onboarding process, allowing DGIT to meet with newly recruited faculty prior to their arrival to ensure their technology needs are met in time.
  3. Governance - Establish a Governance structure for Research Enablement Advisory and Subject Matter Experts (SME) from the research community. This group advises IT on project portfolio in addition to best practices and technology solutions for researchers at UCLA.
  4. Research campaign - Highlight accomplishments from collaborations between research community and IT, in addition to launching technology events.
