Healthcare data exchange and Interoperability are hot button topics when it comes to patient information, the cost of healthcare and barriers encountered by patients who receive care at multiple institutions. This session will give an overview of the current methodologies for health data exchange and what has been successful to date as well as places where they have failed. After the current state overview, the session will transition into future state exchange and discuss the FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Record) standards and how they are changing data exchange as well as the currently 'overhyped' Blockchain technologies and how leveraging blockchain in current exchange white spaces may speed adoption and create value for healthcare organizations.
Previous Knowledge
Attendees should have some familiarity with Healthcare Data exchange standards, such as HL7 and understand some of the barriers and pitfalls to the current exchange processes and methodologies. The session will not be overly technical but will attempt to help attendees understand the current technology and how those will interact with the 'future' technologies.
